Bio

Greg Docherty returned to English football when signing for Hull City from Glasgow Rangers in August 2020, penning a three-year deal.

After rising through the youth ranks at Hamilton Academicals, he signed his first professional deal at the age of 16 prior to making his debut as a 78th-minute substitute against Alloa in December 2013, aged just 17.

Docherty went on to score eight goals in 108 matches in a Hamilton shirt, including the strike that secured Scottish Premiership survival in a 1-0 final-day win over Dundee United.

Earning a move to Rangers in January 2018, Docherty contribute three assists in 14 appearances in his first half-season at Ibrox.

He was allowed to go out on loan to gain further first-team experience in summer 2018, joining League One Shrewsbury Town, where made a huge impression. Docherty contributed an impressive 10 goals and 11 assists from midfield in 2018/19, statistics which saw him named as the Shrews' Player of the Year.

He returned to Rangers hoping to break into the first team but was restricted to just five appearances across the Scottish League Cup and Europa League qualifying rounds before moving to Hibernian on loan in January 2020.

Although his time at Easter Road was halted by the coronavirus pandemic, he still made a big impact for Jack Ross' side, scoring three goals and registering five assists in eight games.

Docherty didn’t waste any time in becoming a fans’ favourite at the MKM Stadium with his performances in central midfield as the Tigers won promotion from League One in 2020/21.

He made 48 appearances in all competitions under the management of Grant McCann and established himself as a very popular figure among the club’s supporters.

Featuring regularly upon the Tigers' return to the second tier, Docherty made 41 appearances in all competitions as we ended the 2021/22 Championship season in 19th place.

In October 2022, Docherty scored our 2022/23 Goal of the Season in a 3-1 away victory over Blackpool, recieving the ball from Ryan Woods before finding the top corner with a thunderous strike from 25-yards out.
