Baxter could return against Luton

18 March 2022

Shota Arveladze is hopeful that goalkeeper Nathan Baxter will be available for selection for this weekend’s clash against Luton Town.

The 23-year-old, on loan from Premier League outfit Chelsea, has recently returned to full training having not featured since the end of January against Swansea City.

“Nathan could be back this weekend,” revealed Arveladze.

“He has trained with the team. He’s had a full session so we’ll probably take him (to the game) if he feels fine.

“Everyone gives us their own energy and quality. Every time a player gets fitter and is ready to help the team, it’s a good feeling.”

The Tigers secured an impressive win against play-off chasing Coventry City in midweek, but Arveladze says the three points did come at a cost with a number of first-team players picking up knocks.

“We have some knocks and we’ll wait until tomorrow (Saturday) to see how serious they are,” said Arveladze.

“I’m hoping we won’t be missing anyone.”

Two players who will be missing from this weekend’s clash against the Hatters are Andy Cannon and Tyler Smith, who have both picked up injuries.

“Smith will be a day or two late (for Luton),” added Arveladze.

“He doesn’t have time to recover. If we had another three or four days, I believe he’d be fit but he will not be ready for tomorrow.

“Cannon has got a very strange injury last minute in training before the (Birmingham City) game. He blocked the ball and twisted his ankle which has made it sore.

“He’s doing better but he will also not be available.”
