We take a look at how some of our young players got on in our weekly loan watch.
Billy Chadwick & Ahmed Salam at Linfield FC:
The Hull-born duo were both on the scoresheet for Linfield in the NIFL League Cup as the Blues thrashed PSNI 11-0 to progress into the next round. After Chadwick assisted the opening goal for Callum Marshall, the forward netted his first of the fixture as he connected with Kirk Millar’s cross with a headed finish. He then secured his brace in the 32nd minute, before completing his hat-trick in the second half after placing a right-footed effort into the far corner. Salam scored Linfield’s tenth of the fixture as he volleyed home from close-range as Linfield progress to face Ballymena United in the next round.
Chadwick also started in Linfield’s last game, a league fixture against Portadown, with Salam being an unused substitute as the Blues played out a goalless draw.
Callum Jones at Morecambe FC:
In the FA Cup, Callum Jones helped Morecambe progress into the second round of the prestigious competition with a 1-0 victory over Newport County. The midfielder, who played the full 90 minutes, provided the assist as he whipped a teasing cross for Aaron Wildig to convert at the back post, after an initial great run by Jones.
Matty Jacob at Gateshead FC:
Defender Matty Jacob also played a full 90 minutes in the FA Cup as Gateshead played out a 2-2 draw against Altrincham. Adam Campbell and ex-Tiger Greg Olley gave the Heed a 2-0 lead, before Marcus Dinanga started the comeback for Altrincham in the 83rd minute. In the fifth minute of injury time, Jake Moult scored the equaliser to force a replay between the two sides.
Tom Macauley at Hall Road Rangers:
In league action, Tom Macauley kept a clean sheet for Hall Road Rangers as they drew 0-0 against Harrogate Railway Athletic at Haworth Park. The goalkeeper played the full game as Hall Road currently sit in 14th position in the NCEL Division One.
Harry Wood at Scunthorpe United:
Returning to the FA Cup, Harry Wood featured as a second-half substitute as Scunthorpe United suffered a 1-0 home defeat against League One side Doncaster Rovers. In Keith Hill’s first game in charge of Scunthorpe, Ryan Loft’s own goal condemned the Iron to defeat with Wood coming on in the 76th minute for Tom Pugh.
Festus Arthur at Barrow:
The German-born defender was an unused substitute as Barrow progressed to the second round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 victory over Banbury United. Goals from Josh Gordon, Offrande Zanzala, Ollie Banks and Jordan Stevens helped the League Two side avoid a cup upset.
Andy Smith at Salford City:
After playing a full 90 minutes in an entertaining 5-3 EFL Trophy victory over Leeds United U23s in midweek, Andy Smith will be looking to make his fifth appearance for the Ammies in the FA Cup First Round fixture against Dagenham & Redbridge tonight.
James Scott at Hibernian:
The Scotland U21 international is looking to be involved with Hibernian’s next fixture after the international break as they face Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday 21st November 2021.
