Dawson on U23s Millwall Defeat

5 May 2021

Andy Dawson gave credit to Millwall after his side suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Professional Development League.

Goals in each half from Tyrese Briscoe and Nana Boateng condemned the Tigers to defeat at the KCOM Stadium.

On the Defeat…

“Credit to Millwall as I thought they defended very well to a man. Obviously the first goal is really important in any game and with them getting it, they sat back deep and were willing to let us have the ball, but we just couldnt break them down and its credit to them. From our perspective, we needed to move the ball a little quicker and if we couldnt go through them, then we needed to get it into wide areas and to be fair we did that a couple of times.

“We got a few decent crosses in, but we needed better runs to get on the end of them. Ive got to give credit to the lads throughout the season. Theyve performed really, really well and it’s great for the football club moving forward.”

KCOM Stadium Experience…

“Its a brilliant experience for the players and its all part of their development. We had six Under-18s in the starting XI and theyll be very, very few Under-23s teams in the country that play with that many youngsters. We play with four, five, six or seven every week which is absolutely fantastic and it’s massive progression for the football club. It’s great theyre getting these experiences here to play against more experienced players and to play at grounds like this and it’s fantastic that everything is moving forward in a great way and that’s credit to everyone involved.”

Next Season Targets…

“Going into next season, we’ve signed a majority of the scholars, so that gives us a great building block for the Under-23s next year. We’re looking to bring a couple of more in, so all of a sudden you’ve got a really strong core of young players next season and a lot of them will be from the local area, which again for the football club going forward is fantastic and credit to everyone involved.”
