Nottingham Forest U18’s 2-1 Hull City U18’s: Match Report

11 March 2021

Hull City Under-18’s suffered defeat in their latest Professional Development League fixture, losing 2-1 away at Nottingham Forest. Despite Harvey Carew scoring for the Tigers, first-half goals from Alexandros Sarantis and Ben Hammond condemned the Tigers to defeat at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

John Anderson made five changes to the starting eleven that were defeated 4-0 by Coventry City last time out. An unnamed trialist started alongside Alfie Taylor in defence while Josh Ward, McCauley Power, Luke Rees and Carew all returned into the starting team respectively.

The hosts had the perfect start by opening the scoring on four minutes, as Sarantis volleyed Silvio Bello’s cross past Harry Fisk. The Tigers’ goalkeeper had to be alert moments later as he denied Jamie McDonnell from point-blank range, before Forest scored their second. Ben Hammond rose highest to head Josh Powell’s delivery into the top corner to double the hosts’ advantage.

The Tigers tried to respond through Harry Lovick, but his volleyed effort went over the bar, before at the other end, Ward produced a vital block to stop Oliver Hammond’s dangerous cross, with Forest having a 3v1 attacking situation.

Rees was next to take aim for the Tigers, but his near-post effort was blocked by Lewis Barker, before Rio Dyer saw his headed attempt cleared off the line by Bello. Fisk then produced a fingertip save to deny Sam Collins to keep the score at 2-0 at half-time.

In the second half, the Tigers pushed for a goal as a great turn and pass from Power found the run of Carew, but the winger’s curling effort went narrowly wide. It was end-to-end action as McDonnell forced Fisk into an acrobatic save at his near post, before Rees hit the crossbar with his headed attempt.

The Tigers did get what was a consolation in injury-time as Carew connected with a low cross at the back post, but it wasn’t enough for John Anderson’s side as they suffered defeat.
