First-year scholar Kyle Fanning says playing in front of fans at the MKM Stadium was a surreal moment for him.
The Under-18s secured a 3-1 victory over Colchester United in the Professional Development League, with the fixture being hosted at the MKM Stadium after the first-team’s Championship match against AFC Bournemouth.
“It was a great experience to play at the MKM Stadium,” said Fanning.
“It was a proud moment for me personally and to see the fans supporting us was great. My mum was in the stands with a few other relatives so it was good to share that experience with them.
“The win made the event even more special and I thought it was good team performance from the boys. It was a tough encounter as Colchester are a good side, but we managed to see out the test and get the victory.”
The midfielder produced an inspired performance for John Anderson’s side, scoring the Tigers’ first and third goals, while also providing the assist for Glen Sani’s composed finish.
“I’m delighted with my own personal performance, but I’m happier that we got the win,” added Fanning.
“It’s good to get goals and assists but it was better to get the win and help the team out to get three points, especially as it was a tight affair.
“We now have two wins from our opening three games and we’ll be going into the Charlton game full of confidence. It’s going to be a tough fixture, but if we replicate this performance then hopefully we should get a positive result.”
