Barnsley U18s 1-1 Hull City U18s: Match Report

4 April 2021

Josh Hinds’ first-half equaliser secured a well-earned point for Hull City U18s, as they drew 1-1 against Barnsley U18s at the Oakwell Training Centre.

John Anderson and Matt Hare made four changes to the starting XI that were defeated 3-0 against Sheffield Wednesday last time out. James Carr, Louis Beckett, McCauley Snelgrove and Hinds all came into the team for Josh Ward, Sam Deacon, Harvey Carew and Glen Sani respectively.

Barnsley had the first opportunity of the game as Harry Fisk saved well to deny Angus Chapman, while at the other end, Blake Goucher produced a vital challenge to deny Snelgrove. Beckett then saw his effort pushed away by Archie Brown, before the rebound by Snelgrove was cleared off the line by Connor Hodgson.

The Tigers defended resolutely as James Carr and Alfie Taylor blocked attempts from Aiden Marsh and Chapman, before the latter hit the post with a low effort. However, Chapman wasn’t going to be denied moments later as his curling effort found the bottom corner to give Barnsley the lead.

The Tigers were behind for less than a minute as they drew level. Taylor’s long pass released Hinds through on goal and the striker rounded the onrushing Brown, before converting from close range. Hinds nearly scored his second before half-time as his effort was pushed onto the post by Brown, before Beckett’s rebound was gathered by the Barnsley goalkeeper.

There were few chances in the second half as Snelgrove saw his attempt blocked by Alex Joof, before Brown saved well to deny Beckett from close range.

Barnsley pushed for a winner late on as substitute Newton Sila-Conde fired a shot over the bar, while Chapman hit the post again with an ambitious effort. Sila-Conde then curled a low shot narrowly wide in injury time as both teams shared the points in the Professional Development League.
