Hull City U18s defender Josh Ward says the team deserved more after a 1-0 home defeat against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
“I thought we deserved a draw at least,” said Ward.
“There wasn’t a lot in the game and there was few half chances for both teams really; nothing clear-cut apart from our last minute one-on-one.
“We switched off from a set-piece which is the difference between winning and losing. It’s that one factor it comes down to and at the end of the day, we were sloppy and we conceded from that.
“They’re always a good side Wigan. We always know when we’re coming up against them that it’ll be a good game. We competed really well and there wasn’t a lot in the game as it was close and we probably didn’t deserve to lose it.
“I think it’s been a difficult start as we’ve had it tough in terms of fixtures. As much as I say that, we’re good enough to compete with anyone in the league.
“We’ve got two games against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest coming up soon in the next two weeks, which again who were two teams that finished in the top half of the table last year so they’ll be good tests.
“I think we need to stay positive and to have that belief that we can beat every team we play this season and I think if we do that, then we’ll be alright.”
