Bio
Since joining the Academy at Under-9s level, Matty Jacob made his long awaited debut for the first team on New Year's Day 2024 away at Sheffield Wednesday.
The left-back penned his first professional contract in May 2019 following the conclusion of his scholarship and featured across the defensive line at Under-21s level, being named captain on numerous occasions.
In September 2020, he was named on the first team bench for the Tigers’ EFL Trophy fixture against Leicester City Under-21s. The defender featured in the friendlies against Mansfield and Sunderland in July 2021, providing an assist for Josh Magennis in the pre-season fixture against the Stags.
He spent the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Gateshead FC, helping them to the National League North title. During his time with the Heed, Jacob made 37 appearances, scoring twice and claiming four assists.
After making his debut at Hillsborough, following in the footsteps of his grandad and ex-Tiger Geoff Barker, Jacob scored his first senior goal on his first senior start at home to Birmingham City in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup. Making 15 appearances in total in his breakout campaign, Jacob was rewarded with a new long-term contract in March 2024.
In January 2025, Jacob scored his first league goal for the Tigers in an impressive 3-0 away win over Sheffield United.
