Bio
Hull-born Lewie Coyle joined his hometown club from Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee in August 2020, penning a three-year deal, with a club option of a further 12 months.
The right-back came through the youth ranks at Leeds United having first joined the Elland Road outfit at the age of 10, and made his professional debut, aged 20, as a substitute in a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest in December 2015.
A first competitive start came his way the following month when he was included from the off in Leeds' 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Rotherham United, finishing the 2015/16 season with 13 appearances to his name in all competitions, 11 of which coming in the Championship.
A further 10 appearances followed in 2016/17 before heading out on loan to Fleetwood in July 2017, where he made 48 appearances to claim to the Players' Player of the Year and Junior Cod Army Player of the Year awards.
Two further loan spells at Highbury Stadium followed in 2018/19 and 2019/20 before the switch was made permanent in January 2020. Coyle featured 42 times in 2019/20, scoring the first career goal in a 2-2 home draw with Shrewsbury Town, to take his overall tally for the Lancashire outfit to 135 in all competitions.
Coyle played a key role in helping Grant McCann’s side make an immediate return to the Championship by securing the League One title in 2020/21. He made 34 appearances for the Tigers in all competitions and was given the opportunity to captain his hometown club on multiple occasions throughout the season.
His first City goal - a last-minute long-range stunner in a thrilling 3-2 win from 2-0 down against former club Fleetwood in the EFL Trophy - was named our 2020/21 Goal of the Season.
Injury restricted his involvement in 2021/22 to 23 appearances, with Coyle scoring his only goal of the season in the 2-1 survival-clinching victory over Cardiff City.
Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Coyle was appointed as our new club captain. Penning a new three-year-deal in June 2023, the right-back made his 150th appearance for his hometown club during the 2024/25 campaign.
