Our final January recruit speaks exclusively to TigersPlus after joining City from Burnley!

John Egan is eager to play in Rubén Sellés’ team after joining Hull City from Burnley on deadline day.

The two-time Championship promotion-winning centre-half bolsters the defensive ranks and adds a wealth of experience going into the latter part of this campaign.

Having watched several of City’s recent fixtures, Egan is looking forward to playing under our head coach.

He said: “I have watched a few of Hull’s games recently and you can see they are a very well-coached, well-drilled team, so I am looking forward to getting onto the grass and learning and helping the squad.

“Since the manager’s come in, he’s steadied it after a tough start to the season and they’ve played some really good football, which is high intensity and on the front foot and as a player, those are the kind of teams you want to play in. It’s a great chance for me to come in now and kick on.

“I’m a centre-back that likes to defend, but in today’s game, you have to use the ball too. I’ll give 100 per cent when I’m on the pitch and help organise the team and do the best I can.

“I’ve played a lot of games in this division and managed to get promoted twice. Every game is really hard, you can always beat anyone and also lose to anyone, and the main thing is about being consistent. Having consistent standards in training leads to consistent performances on a matchday.

“I know I have a lot of work to do and there’s competition here which is what you want as a player. I'm just looking forward to starting.

“I’m looking forward to the future, putting on the black and amber, being a Hull City player. I’ll give it my all, and hopefully, we can achieve success together.”

The 32-year-old Republic of Ireland international follows in the footsteps of several of his former countrymen, who have donned the black and amber stripes in the past.

Furthermore, Egan has scored three goals in nine games against the Tigers, but he is now looking forward to putting in some positive displays for City.

“I feel like I know a lot about Hull because a few of my past friends and teammates have played here, so I have always kept an eye on them,” he admitted.

“David Meyler was the first to come across; we played at Sunderland together from a young age and he’s from Cork and still involved here - he always spoke really highly of the place. There’s also Robbie Brady, Stephen Quinn, Paul McShane and I am probably missing out a few but there’s a big Irish connection with Hull.

“I know Sean McLoughlin and Regan Slater from previous clubs, so it’s nice to know a couple of lads when coming in. But all the lads have been very welcoming.

“I have played against City a few times and had some good battles over the years and scored a few times at the stadium, so I’m hoping to get more appearances and goals but this time in black and amber.”
