Centre-back Andy Smith has joined Sky Bet League Two side Gillingham on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has made seven appearances for City since progressing through the Tigers’ academy, which he joined at Under-9s, featuring once this season in an EFL Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Banbury-born defender has enjoyed four previous loan spells, first at Salford City, two with Grimsby Town, where he won promotion from the National League, and Cheltenham Town last term.

The Gills are 17th in the fourth tier with 32 points from 27 matches and appointed the experienced John Coleman as their manager last month, replacing Mark Bonner.

We wish Andy all the best for his spell at Priestfield Stadium.
