Rubén Sellés bemoaned the penalty decision that changed, and ultimately decided, the game in Hull City’s controversial Good Friday defeat at in-form Swansea City.
Žan Vipotnik’s 51st-minute penalty, awarded for handball against John Egan, when the ball actually struck him in the face, condemned the Tigers to a second successive 1-0 away reverse.
“We came here with the intention to put on a good performance and get the three points,” said Sellés.
“The first half was difficult for us. Swansea adjust very well their pressure and we didn’t find the moments to break that pressure. We defended our box when we needed to defend it.
“At the beginning of the second half, we adjust things and we started better. The episode that made it 1-0 changed the game.
“For the next 40-45 minutes, we tried to create our moments, open up a little bit more the game and tried to create chances.”
Sellés continued: “In the first half, we should play a little bit more into the space. We should arrive into those spaces with more players and then try to break their pressure instead of playing backwards to go forward.
“We started to do that at the beginning of the second half. The goal changed things. We were chasing but the intention was there and everyone was ready to give everything for the team.”
On the penalty incident, Sellés said: “My take on it is that John made a fantastic action and the ball touches his head.
“It is what it is. I cannot change it. I cannot complain because the decision has gone to one side and not the other. I can start to help in how I can make my team better to avoid those situations.”
