Hull City are delighted to announce the signing of Colombian midfielder Steven Alzate on a two-year deal, with a club option of a further year.
The 26-year-old was a free agent after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, for whom he made 51 appearances – 43 of them in the Premier League.
He joined the Seagulls in July 2017 from Leyton Orient, where he played 12 games, and spent the first half of the 2018/19 season on loan at Swindon Town, featuring 26 times.
Camden-born Alzate appeared in half of Brighton’s 2019/20 top-flight fixtures and made 15 and nine Premier League outings over the next two campaigns, scoring the winner against Liverpool at Anfield.
Spending the last two years in the Belgian Pro League with Standard Liège, the central midfielder totalled five goals and nine assists in 54 matches for Les Rouches.
Eligible for Colombia through his parents, he has earned seven senior caps for Los Cafeteros and played in three of their 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Alzate said: “I’m extremely delighted to be here and for it to finally get done. Speaking to the directors, the ambition of the club was why I decided to join.
“Ex-teammates of mine have played here – Noah Ohio and Aaron Connolly – and said good things. I know Ryan Longman and Carl Rushworth from Brighton and Gustavo Puerta from the national team.
“I’ve never played here and I can’t wait to get on the pitch. I’m looking forward to getting my first minutes, playing, getting some wins and hopefully contributing some goals and assists.
“Individually, I want to get as many games in as I can, get my stats up with goals and assists and, with my experience, help the team have a good season.”
Welcome, Steven!
