Hull City Under-21s recorded a sixth consecutive victory in the Professional Development League with a 4-1 thumping of Peterborough United.

Conor Sellars made four changes to his starting XI from the 4-0 victory over Coventry City last time out. George Dickinson returned from suspension to captain the side, while Ed Devine, Zane Myers and Pharrell Brown all came in to the side.

It was fairly even exchange within the opening minutes, with the first chance falling to City on 15 minutes. Harry Vaughan’s pass found Tyrell Sellars-Fleming, who held the play up before playing the ball to Jake Leake. The full-back in-turn found Myers, but his left-footed finish flew over the bar.

Peterborough’s Tyler Young found Noah Freeman at the back post, but his header flew wide, while Stan Ashbee’s pass played in Nathan Tinsdale. Despite beating the onrushing Will Blackmore, Jenson Sumnall was on the line to clear the ball away.

From the resulting corner, City scored the opener as Blackmore acrobatically denied Ashbee’s header, but Dickinson was on hand to head the rebound home from close range.

The Tigers immediately searched for a second as Brown fired narrowly wide before Myers tested Blackmore in the Peterborough goal. A minute after Myers was denied, City scored their second as Vaughan’s cushioned header was brought down by Sellars-Fleming, who clinically finished from close range. Three minutes later, City had a third as Sellars-Fleming’s shot on the turn deflected off Sumnall to find the bottom corner.

The visitors did pull a goal back prior to the half-time break as captain David Kamara shifted the ball onto his left foot and from the edge of the penalty area curled his finish into the far bottom corner.

In the second half, City continued to look for more goals as Brown fired over before Myers saw his effort blocked by Lucca Mendonca. The loose ball from the ball fell to Vaughan who drilled his low finish, but Blackmore was sharp to deny the midfielder one-handed.

At the other end, substitute Andre Changunda saw his effort blocked by Jack Leckie before Callum Yam held Sumnall’s looping header. The City shot stopper saved again minutes later to push Young’s shot around the post before Leckie fired over from close range. Tinsdale then stung the palms of Blackmore after a great run from the midfielder saw him get into the Peterborough penalty area.

In the latter stages of the game, Kamara fired over for Posh before Brandon Harriman-Annous flashed his cross-shot wide across the six-yard area, with Tinsdale narrowly missing the delivery.

With a minute to play, City had their deserved fourth as Sellars-Fleming used the run of Vaughan to create a shooting opportunity for himself, and the striker arrowed his finish into the top corner.
