Hull City and Sunderland will compete for the Raich Carter Trophy when the teams meet at the MKM Stadium.

Achieving legendary status at both clubs, Carter captained his hometown team Sunderland to the First Division crown in 1935/36 and led City to the Division Three North title as player-manager in 1948/49.

The inside-forward accomplished so much more during his distinguished career and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

The Raich Carter Trophy was inaugurated in December 2002 for the opening match at the MKM Stadium, with Steve Melton marking the occasion with the landmark goal in a 1-0 friendly win.

The trophy has been contested three times since: another 1-0 Tigers victory in 2005, a 1-1 draw on the stadium’s 20-year anniversary in 2022 and a 1-0 Black Cats win last Boxing Day.

The latest instalment will take place on Sunday 20 October and tickets for the game remain available from just £23 for adults and £3.50 for juniors aged 2-10.

Supporters can attend a lecture celebrating Carter’s legacy on Friday 18 October, with tickets free for Members and £10 for non-Members.
