Hull City’s winning run ended abruptly after a heavy defeat by rampant Norwich City at Carrow Road.
First-half goals from Marcelino Núñez and Josh Sargent, who also missed a penalty, were added to by second-half strikes from Kaide Gordon and Borja Sainz on a nightmare afternoon in Norfolk.
Óscar Zambrano and Marvin Mehlem were recalled as Xavier Simons and Kasey Palmer dropped to a bench that included João Pedro for the first time and former Canary Abu Kamara.
November 2021 was the last time the Tigers recorded four consecutive victories, with the last success at Carrow Road coming in September 2010, a result which ended a 30-match winless away run.
The Tigers threatened first as a short corner was worked to Cody Drameh just outside the area but, unlike at Loftus Road, the full-back powered his 20-yarder over the bar.
After a comfortable opening 10 minutes, the tide turned as Johannes Hoff Thorup’s charges began to carve the visitors open.
Sargent stole possession off Zambrano and slid Sainz through one-on-one, but Ivor Pandur stood tall and produced a superb stop to push his lifted finish around the post.
Anis Slimane’s lofted pass put Núñez clean through but Pandur came to the rescue again with another excellent save, keeping out his left-footed effort with his legs.
There was nothing the in-form keeper could do on 16 minutes when, moments after Liam Millar’s curling shot was tipped over by his opposite number Angus Gunn, Norwich took a deserved lead.
Sainz darted infield from the left and laid the ball off for Núñez to arrow an unerring right-footed strike first time past Pandur from the edge of the box.
Not long after, the Canaries had a second as a slick move culminated in Sainz delivering an inviting low cross for Sargent to side-foot home from six yards.
The Tigers looked to reply; Mohamed Belloumi’s delayed shot was gathered by Gunn, who also claimed Sean McLoughlin’s weak header, Belloumi’s cross skimmed off Chris Bedia’s head and Coyle curled wide.
More quick interplay released Sargent down the right and the United States international cut the ball back for Slimane to smash wide with 10 minutes of the half remaining.

Charlie Hughes came on for his long-awaited debut, replacing McLoughlin at half-time, and the Tigers applied the pressure at the start of the second half.
Regan Slater’s drilled strike whistled wide and Belloumi’s effort after cutting inside was spilled by former Hull City stopper George Long, on as a half-time change for Gunn.
Norwich could have extended their advantage on 55 minutes when Núñez’s venomous drive struck the hand of Coyle but Sargent slammed his spot-kick against the base of the post.
The woodwork was rattled at the other end as Belloumi curled a wonderful free-kick against the bar before Hughes fired into the side-netting.
Ryan Giles and Steven Alzate came on for Drameh and Zambrano on 62 minutes but the Tigers were three down four minutes later.
Giles stopped Sargent after a lightning Canaries counter but Hughes was dispossessed by Gordon when trying to dribble out of trouble and the Norwich substitute’s shot squirmed in off the post.
Bedia and Millar were withdrawn for Pedro and Kamara, who nodded Belloumi’s far-post centre into the side-netting.
The young winger then sent in an inviting cross for Pedro to turn the ball home with his arm, receiving a caution from referee Tom Nield despite his protestations.
The irrepressible Sainz added the Canaries’ fourth with 12 to play, expertly taking down Callum Doyle’s delightful ball over the defence and deftly lobbing Pandur, who was caught off his line.
Pandur prevented Kellen Fisher from adding a fifth with his foot before Emiliano Marcondes headed the rebound wide from close range.
