Twenty years ago, the first of a key double promotion was completed on 1 May 2004 at Huish Park, the home of Yeovil Town.
When Ian Ashbee’s rocket of a finish hit the back of the net, Hull City secured promotion from the fourth tier of English football upon the final whistle. It was a first promotion in 19 years.
A key date in the club’s history, the promotion act as a platform for success which saw the club propel itself into the Premier League, FA Cup final and European football; none of which would have happened without that famous day in Somerset.
Twenty years on, the Hull City Official Supporters Club is inviting fans of all ages to come along to a 20th anniversary celebration of the promotion, as part of the club’s 120th anniversary celebrations. The event will also celebrate the 20th birthday of the Hull City OSC.
Hosted in the Kingston Suite at the MKM Stadium on Saturday 29 June, players and staff from that season will reunite to tell stories from that campaign. Manager Peter Taylor, captain Ian Ashbee, Alton Thelwell, Andy Dawson, Marc Joseph, Stuart Green, Justin Whittle, Damian Delaney and Andy Holt are the amongst the names who have already confirmed their attendance for the event.
Tickets are priced at £20, which includes street food (vegetarian and vegan options are available), a souvenir ticket and an exclusive opportunity to obtain memorabilia only available on the night, with ex-Tiger legend John Hawley acting as the auctioneer.
