Hull City were heavily beaten by Turkish giants Fenerbahçe in a pre-season friendly at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Substitute Sincere Hall scored the Tigers’ consolation – his second in as many games – with Edin Džeko netting twice and Fred, Sebastian Szymański and Mert Hakan Yandaş on target for the Istanbul club.
City were far from intimidated by the raucous atmosphere in a bright opening 38 minutes, controlling possession calmly and neatly despite the persistent jeers of the fervent Fenerbahçe fans.
A couple of early crosses were claimed by keeper Dominik Livaković, Matty Jacob's speculative strike sailed wide and Ryan Giles’ effort from a short free-kick was blocked.
Such was the Tigers’ dominance of the ball, the Yellow Canaries were restricted to the occasional counter-attack – Lewie Coyle anticipating the danger well to intercept an 18th-minute pull-back.
Alfie Jones, falling backwards, lofted a right-footed effort straight at Livaković – but two quick-fire goals in the final seven minutes of the half put the Süper Lig side in command.
First, Szymański robbed Jones in the area and teed up Ryan Kent to stand up a cross to the far post, where Džeko climbed above Jacob to nod past Ivor Pandur.
City conceded again just before half-time when Džeko’s cut-back was touched on by Dušan Tadić for Fred to strike first time, his 14-yard drive deflecting off Sean McLoughlin and wrong-footing Pandur.
Kent swept over at the end of the first half and Fener scored a third just 35 seconds into the second.
Bright Osayi-Samuel jinked past Jacob in the box and drilled in a low cross that squirmed off Jones and was tapped in by Džeko from virtually on the line.
Three became four on 52 minutes when the irrepressible Džeko lifted in a pinpoint cross for Szymański, unmarked, to plant a superb header perfectly inside the far post.
Coyle’s long-range drive almost deceived Livaković, who held at the second attempt, before Pandur tipped Oğuz Aydın’s powerful but central strike over the top.
Fenerbahçe scored a spectacular fifth midway through the second half when substitute Yandaş, near the centre circle, spotted Pandur off his line and sent an audacious 40-yard lob into the net.
The Tigers pulled one back with 17 minutes remaining when Hall pickpocketed his man and received the ball back from Ryan Longman, steadied himself and coolly side-footed past Livaković.
The home keeper denied Abdüş Ömür a goal on his return to Türkiye moments later, parrying away his sweeping first-time strike at full stretch – the final notable opportunity of the night.
