An in-depth look into the career into our new winter recruit, Noah Ohio…

Born in Almere, Netherlands, to Nigerian parents, the striker began his youth career at FC Almere before moving to the England to play for Manchester United in 2015. 

Moving across to city rivals Manchester City the following campaign, Ohio netted his first Under-18s for the Citizens in only his sixth Under-18 Premier League appearance on 6 April 2019 as a 16-year-old. Registering an assist against Middlesbrough the fixture below, the striker netted a stoppage-time winner when found by current Sheffield United midfielder James McAtee in a 2-1 victory over Stoke City. 

In June 2019, Ohio moved to Germany to represent the academy of RB Leipzig. Playing 13 times in the B-Junioren Bundesliga Nord/Nordost, the striker scored 10 times and registered one assist. In his final five appearances in the competition, he netted consecutively in all of them, which included a hat-trick in a 6-0 thumping of Eintracht Braunschweig Under-17s. 

The following campaign saw Ohio score five goals and register two assists for RB Leipzig Under-19s, all coming in victories. Scoring in the DFB-Pokal Der Junioren first round win over Elversberg, the striker started in four A-Junioren Bundesliga North/NorthEast wins, netting a hat-trick against Dynamo Dresden. 

In January 2021, the now 21-year-old took his first steps into senior football with an 18-month loan move to Vitesse in his home nation of Netherlands. Making his senior debut as a substitute against VVV-Venlo, the striker featured four times for the club in the Eredivisie and was an unused substitute 12 times in all competitions for the club, including the 2-1 loss in the KNVB Beker final against Ajax. 

The 2021/22 season saw a second loan spell for Ohio, this time to Austria to join FK Austria Wien. Making his debut for the Violets in a narrow defeat against RB Salzburg on 8 August 2021, Ohio netted his first senior goal a month later in only his fifth appearance for the club, netting the second in a 2-0 away win over LASK. 

Scoring in league games against Admira Wacker, SCR Altach, Rapid Vienna and SK Austria Klagenfurt, as well as netting in the second round of the ÖFB-Cup against SV Kapfenberg, Ohio featured 31 times in all competitions, registering two assists. He also played one game for the second team in the 2.Liga against Rapid Wien II. 

His impressive debut campaign in the country saw Standard Liège sign Ohio permanently on 14 July 2022 on a four-year contract. Making his Liège debut eight days after signing in a 2-2 draw against KAA Gent, the striker netted in back-to-back games for Standard Liège II in September in the Challenger Pro League before a hamstring injury kept him out for a short time.

Registering an assist on his recovery from a second hamstring injury for the first team against Union Saint-Gilloise in November 2022, Ohio scored his first goal for the senior side in a 2-0 win over KV Mechelen two months later. 

Featuring four times for their second team, scoring twice and registering one assist, the 21-year-old netted five times and recorded five assists for the first team in his maiden campaign for Liège in all competitions. He featured 21 times in the Jupiler Pro League, six times in the league’s Europe play-offs and twice in the Croky Cup. 

So far this campaign, Ohio has made 16 appearances in all competitions, netting his only goal of the season in a 5-0 home win over KRC Harelbeke in the seventh round of the Croky Cup. 

Internationally, Ohio earned three caps for Netherlands Under-15s in December 2017 against England Under-15s. Being given his first cap by former Hull City assistant manager Peter van Der Veen, the striker netted twice in his second cap for the country in a 3-2 win over England. 

Switching his allegiances to represent England Under-16s in friendly fixtures, Ohio earned six caps for Kevin Betsy’s side, scoring his only goal for the Three Lions in only his second appearance, a 2-1 win over Türkiye. 

Scoring four in four caps for Netherlands Under-16s, which included a brace on debut in a 4-0 win over Hungary, the 21-year-old continued his international career with Holland when being called up by their Under-19 side. Netting again on debut against Serbia, Ohio earned three caps all coming in Under-19 UEFA Euro Championship qualifiers before being called up to their Under-21 side. 

Earning six caps, all of Ohio’s appearances have seen wins, scoring in his most recent five games. His most recent cap saw the striker score and assist in a 4-2 win over Sweden Under-21s in the UEFA European Championship Qualifying Group C in November 2023.
