An in-depth look into the career into our new winter recruit, Abdülkadir Ömür…

Born in Çarşıbaşı, a municipality and district of Trabzon Province in Türkiye, Ömür was scouted by Trabzonspor and was given trial fixtures before signing for their youth teams in 2011. 

Progressing through the club’s academy system, the now 24-year-old made his first team debut on 12 January 2016 in the group stages of the Türkiye Kupasi, replacing Soner Aydoğdu in the 65th minute in a 4-1 victory over Adanaspor. 

Being named on the bench eight days in another group cup fixture against Nazilli Belediyespor, the attacking midfielder made his second Trabzonspor appearance 15 days after his debut in a 2-0 defeat away at Gaziantepsor. 

In his first senior campaign, Ömür was also an unused substitute four times in the Süper Leg in fixtures against Eskisehirspor, Osmanlispor, Antalyaspor and Kasimpasa. 

Making his debut in Türkiye’s top flight in the following season in December 2016, coming on as a substitute in a narrow 1-0 defeat away at top-of-the-league Istanbul Basaksehir FK, the 24-year-old netted his first senior goal five days later on his first start in a 5-0 victory over Kizilcabölük in the Türkiye Kupasi. 

Featuring five times in all competitions for Trabzonspor in the 2016/17 season, the following campaign was a breakout year for the attacking midfielder. Making 32 appearances, 29 of those came in the Süper Lig. Registering six assists and netting three times, his most notable appearance that season came in a 4-0 home victory over Kayserispor, opening the scoring before assisting the second goal, netted by Yusuf Yazıcı.

The 2018/19 campaign brought another good return for the attacking midfielder, recording 10 assists and netting five goals in 32 outings, helping Trabzonspor finish fourth in the Süper Lig table and qualification to the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.

Making his debut in a club European competition in a 2-2 draw against Sparta Prague. Helping the club advance to the next round, Ömür registered an assist in the qualifying round first leg tie away at AEK Athens in a 3-1 win. After progressing to the group stage of the prestigious competition, the attacking midfielder’s season was disrupted due to a serious meniscus tear. Featuring 21 times in all competitions that saw four goals, his most important finish of the season came in the Türkiye Kupasi final. After featuring in both semi-final victories over Fenerbahce, Ömür scored the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Alanyaspor to secure the silverware. 

Two goals and three assists in 23 Süper Lig outings came in 2020/21 before featuring 38 times in all competitions the following campaign. Netting seven goals and registering four assists in 33 league appearances, Ömür was a key player in winning the Turkish Süper Lig title for Trabzonspor, with the 24-year-old being named captain in two league outings. In those two specific fixtures, the attacking midfielder scored in both games, one against Gaziantep FK and the other against Caykur Rizespor. 

Assisting in the UEFA Champions League qualification first leg fixture against FC Copenhagen, Ömür made his most appearances in a singular season at club level, featuring 41 times, scoring three goals and registering three assists, winning the TFF Süper Cup. The attacking midfielder also featured against the Tigers in a mid-season friendly at the Regnum Carya, playing the entire first half in the 1-1 draw and assisting for Trabzonspor's finish. 

Recording six assists in just 16 league appearances this season, Ömür in total has played 211 times for Trabzonspor, scoring 25 goals and recording 36 assists.

Internationally, the attacking midfielder earned his first cap for his country on Christmas Day 2012 at Under-14s level. Earning two caps at that level and seven times at Under-15s, Ömür captained the Under-16s three times in his 12 appearances, scoring his first international goal in a 2-0 win over Belgium. 

Being captain 11 times in 12 appearances for the Under-17s, which also saw him net against Slovenia in the UEFA European qualifiers, the 24-year-old featured four times at Under-18s level and 15 times for the Under-19s, scoring as captain against Slovakia. Featuring for the Under-19s at the 2018 European Championship, in which Ömür assisted against England in a narrow 3-2 defeat, the attacking midfielder has featured seven times at Under-21s level.

His first senior cap came in a 2-1 international friendly win against Greece on 30 May 2019. Registering an assist on his fifth cap in the 94th minute in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Germany, a game that saw current Tiger Ozan Tufan score in, Ömür has featured 12 times at senior level for his country, registering two assists.
