Hull City are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed four productive loan spells and impressed in all three EFL divisions, not missing a minute of Swansea City’s 2023/24 Championship campaign.

The former England Under-21 international kept 11 clean sheets in 48 appearances and was crowned Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Season after starring in South Wales.

Adding to his trophy collection, the shot-stopper won Walsall’s 2021/22 Players’ and Young Player of the Year prizes during a standout season in League Two, recording 13 shut-outs in 46 outings.

More individual recognition followed when stepping up a level in 2022/23 as Rushworth kept 20 clean sheets in 46 matches to earn Lincoln City’s Young Player of the Year award.

The custodian has accumulated 131 EFL appearances and featured 30 times for non-league Worthing in his first loan after signing for Brighton from hometown club FC Halifax Town in 2019.

Rushworth said: “I’m really pleased and buzzing to finally get it sorted, play in front of the fans and get integrated into the squad.

“I didn’t know if I was going out on loan or staying. I want to play and knowing there was interest and how the team plays in possession, it will favour me and my attributes.

“I’ll bring energy and feed off the fans. My in-possession game is one of my strengths, along with my shot-stopping.

“The manager wants me to play mixed football – really nice from the back, but also know if there are advantages further up the pitch that playing one ball into the final third is better.

“The location was also a factor. I’m from Halifax – it’s closer to home – and my family can come and watch as many games as possible.”

Welcome, Carl!
