Lead PDP Coach Conor Sellars hailed Hull City Under-21s’ 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers U21s at the MKM Stadium, which sealed a fifth straight victory.

A goal-laden first period, with Tyrell Sellars-Fleming netting a brace and Sincere Hall grabbing a silky third, was followed up with a professional display in the second half to ensure their upturn in form continued.

And Sellars explained how pleased he was with the performance, as well as the benefits for his side to experience playing at the MKM Stadium.

“It’s always nice to keep the run going, but it’s taking it one by one, and the lads now find themselves in a good position. It’s five from five, but alongside that it has been five really good performances, which is more beneficial to us, so to see the lads play in that style against a really good side then it is very pleasing.

“When we got the team sheet before the game, there were a lot of players that were 20 years old and over, and the message to the players was that this was probably going to be our biggest test from the last seven games.

“We started a little bit slow, but after that, we were very clinical in the first half, and we managed to take some chances and players like Ty and Sincere were a real threat.

“At half-time, we asked more from the players, and I felt that we were much better at controlling the game – it would have been nicer to just finish off a few opportunities as we should have scored more.

“[Playing at the MKM Stadium] they have got to deal with the pressure of playing in stadiums, and there are people out there watching them and looking at who could potentially come through and hopefully, people have an idea of who the Under-21s are and how they play and who’s one for the future.”

Another positive was the re-emergence of Kyle Fanning, who returned from a long-term injury setback to play the remaining 11 minutes of the fixture from the bench.

“For Kyle, it’s nice,” added Sellars.

“There’s been a few lads that have had long-term injuries, so every time we can safely re-introduce them, it’s a nice feeling because it adds to the group.

“Kyle came in under high pressure and did well, which was nice for him.”

Gaining a chance to impress and develop in Fanning’s absence was the aptly named centre-half Bobby Moore from the Tigers’ Under-15s squad, who made his Under-21s debut last week against Wigan Athletic.

“It was fantastic for young Bobby,” he continued. “For an Under-15s player to play for the Under-21s is a massive achievement and I am sure he and his family are very proud of that.

“I hope that we can keep getting players from the academy into the Under-21s and give them that opportunity when they want it.”
