An in-depth look into our deadline day recruit Jaden Philogene…
Born in Hammersmith, Philogene began his youth career at the Pro: Direct Academy in London. Reportedly spending time at a number of EFL clubs, the 21-year-old transferred to Aston Villa’s academy in January 2018.
A regular goalscorer at youth level, he penned his first professional contract with the Villans in February 2021. Philogene made his first-team debut three months later when appearing as a 93rd-minute substitute in a 2-1 away victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Featuring for the Villans’ Under-21 side in the EFL Trophy prior to his first-team debut, the winger also appeared for England’s Under-19s in November 2020. In his one cap at that level, Philogene netted a hat-trick on a 8-0 victory over Derby County Under-23s.
Making his second Premier League appearance in a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in August 2021, the winger made the temporary switch to Stoke City in January 2022. Making his Potters’ debut against Fulham a day after joining, Philogene scored his first senior goal in only his fourth Stoke appearance in a 3-0 victory over Swansea City. At Stoke, the 21-year-old made 11 appearances in the Championship, scoring one goal.

The following campaign saw Philogene return to England’s second tier with Cardiff City. Making his debut on the opening day against Reading as a substitute, Philogene netted his first Cardiff goal on his first start and second appearance, the winner in a 1-0 home victory over Birmingham City.
Netting in Championship fixtures against Rotherham United, Bristol City and Swansea City, along with a finish against Leeds United in the FA Cup third round, the winger made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds, scoring five goals and registering one assist.
Philogene is a current England Under-20 international, being capped four times since making his debut in September 2021 in a 6-1 victory over Romania in the U20 Elite League. He has four caps to his name, playing against Italy, Czech Republic and Portugal.
