Hull City Under-21s suffered a home defeat against Peterborough United in the Professional Development League.

Conor Sellars made five changes to his starting XI to the one that faced Birmingham City last time out. Thimothée Lo-Tutala replaced the suspended Owen Foster in goal, while Matty Jacob, Andy Smith, James Furlong and Nathan Tinsdale all came into the team.

The visitors had the first opportunity of the game as Lo-Tutala pushed Kai Corbett’s attempt onto the crossbar before the rebound by Harley Mills deflected wide for a corner. At the other end, Rocco Coyle tested the trialist goalkeeper from range with a free-kick while the resulting corner was punched away by the trialist.

Peterborough’s Charlie O’Connell dragged his shot wide of the target before Jacob Wakeling saw his effort blocked by the recovering Furlong. Lo-Tutala then denied Donay O’Brien Brady at his near post with a great block before Bora Aydınlık forced a good save from the trialist in the other goal.

Lo-Tutala then held Corbett’s strike before the visitors opened the scoring. Peterborough’s Wakeling rounded the onrushing Lo-Tutala before clinically finishing the chance off by putting the ball into the empty net.

Three minutes later and the Tigers were two behind as Jevon Mills was claimed to handled the ball in the box, with referee Dane McCarrick pointing to the spot. Corbett stepped up and dispatched the penalty to double Posh’s lead.

Both Tyrell Sellars-Fleming and Aydınlık tried to pull a goal back for City prior to half-time, but both were denied as the half-time whistle blew.

Five minutes into the second half, Posh had a third as Wakeling cut inside from the right wing before placing his left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

Harley Wills then drilled a low shot wide for Peterborough before the visitors netted a fourth from the penalty spot through Trialist B. A fifth came a minute later as Donay O’Brien Brady snuck a shot through at the near post. Coyle hit the crossbar with a thunderous free-kick from range before Lo-Tutala saved well to deny Peterborough captain Sam Dreyer at the near post.

On the 78th minute, Trialist B netted his second and Posh’s sixth of the evening with a header at the back post before Lo-Tutala saved with his legs one-on-one to deny the Posh trialist in the latter stages of the game.
