Hull City are delighted to announce the signing of defender Ajay Weston on a one-year deal, with the club holding the option of an extra year.

The 18-year-old featured for the Tigers’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides on trial last season, coming off the bench in the U21 Professional Development League national semi-final against Millwall.

Lead Professional Development Phase Coach Conor Sellars said: “Ajay made a real impact in the games he played and is someone who we saw had potential in him as a left-back.

“He is very composed and has got a very good understanding of his role and responsibilities.

“He is a very likable character and hopefully we will see him progress and get more used to how we play, but he is another one who really impressed in his trial and we are looking forward to working with him.”

A left-back by trade, Weston began his career at Cheltenham Town before moving to Huddersfield Town’s academy.

Featuring for both the Terriers’ Under-17 and Under-19s sides, the 18-year-old will link up with the Under-21 side as a first-year professional.

“I am buzzing to be here. Hull were very quick to act when I got released; literally it was the day after that they were interested in me and as soon as I arrived at Hull, I knew it was the club for me as I settled naturally here,” said Weston.

“I am obsessed with the playing style and how they play out from the back and I am really excited for what the future holds here.

“I am a very attacking full-back. I love to get forward and love combining with the attackers and help contribute towards goals. I am also really good at reading the play, the flow of the game and what is going to happen next and hopefully my play style will help the team out.

“I think with the strength of the squad we have, the target is to win the majority of our games comfortably. I just want to be a regular Under-21s player and get in as many minutes as I can in and try and break into training with the first team.”
