We are delighted to announce that Nick Barmby has become the next legend to be inducted into the Hull City Hall of Fame.
As a player, the Hull-born midfielder was an influential figure in the club’s rise from League One to the Premier League, making 197 appearances and scoring 32 goals across eight years.
First joining the Tigers from Leeds United in June 2004, Barmby produced a fantastic debut season for Peter Taylor’s side when netting nine times in 39 appearances, helping City achieve back-to-back promotions.
Influential in games, specifically during the Championship years, the former England international played an important role in the club’s first promotion to the Premier League in 2008, netting in both semi-final play-off games against Watford before starting in the play-off final victory over Bristol City at Wembley.
Featuring 41 times in the Premier League for Hull City across our first two-season stint in England’s top flight, the now 49-year-old remained loyal to his hometown club following relegation to the Championship, also stepping into the dugout and becoming a coach in that time.
When then manager, Nigel Pearson, departed to rejoin Leicester City in November 2011, Barmby took further responsibility, becoming player-manager and helped the club rise towards the top half of the table, narrowly missing out on the play-offs.
During his time as player-manager, Barmby oversaw 33 games, winning 13, drawing eight, with the team scoring 36 goals.
Barmby becomes the 10th member of our Hall of Fame having received 32.7% of the vote, just beating Raich Carter who had 30.7%. Billy Whitehurst was third with 18.7%.
Barmby will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame at our first home league fixture of 2024 against Norwich City.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to take part in this year’s Hall of Fame vote.
