Midfielder Tyler Morton has been named the EFL's Young Player of the Month for November.

The 21-year-old has become a mainstay in central midfield since his season-long loan switch from boyhood club Liverpool, starting 13 of our last 14 fixtures following two eye-catching cameos.

His stellar club form was recognised with two England Under-21 caps in November, scoring and assisting on his full debut in the Young Lions’ 3-0 win over Northern Ireland at Goodison Park.

Wallasey-born Morton netted his first senior goal four days later to complete a stirring Tigers fightback at Swansea City, guiding a side-footed volley into the bottom corner from Cyrus Christie’s precise cross.

Having not scored in 65 club career appearances before then, the Reds’ academy product notched again in the 4-1 dismantling of Rotherham United, stroking home after international teammate Liam Delap was foiled.

“It’s a massively proud moment,” said Morton. “I was absolutely buzzing when I found out. I didn’t expect it but it came and I’m so happy. A big thanks to the people that have helped me – the fans, the players, the staff – and I’m striving for more.

“I’ve been pleased with my performances but I know I’ve got a lot more to show this club and the fans.

“The gaffer and Justin (Walker) have helped me so much and give me confidence to be the player I want to be. They’re pushing me to be a lot better player and put me out of my comfort zone to bring out the best in me.”

Morton becomes the second current City star to receive the EFL’s young player prize after defender Jacob Greaves, who won the award while on loan at Cheltenham Town in October 2019.

Former fans’ favourite Jarrod Bowen was also awarded the EFL's Young Player of the Month during his breakthrough season at the MKM Stadium in August 2017.

Congratulations, Tyler!
