The Tigers have eight players currently out gaining experience elsewhere. Here, we take a look at how our loanees are getting on in loan watch…
Ben Voase (Beverley Town):
We start with our most recent departure in Ben Voase, who joined Northern Counties East League Division One side Beverley Town on work experience. The Scarborough-born shot-stopper, who made five appearances in the Premier Division with Barton Town earlier this season, made his Beverley debut on Saturday against second-placed Horbury Town.
Beverley, under the management of David Ricardo, led 2-1 at half-time at the Slanzenger Sports Club. Despite Gibril Bojang scoring the opener for Horbury, Beverley’s Harry Griffin levelled the scores before ex-Hull City defender Matty Plummer netted the second. However, two second-half goals from Sam Kyeremehi and Ben Agui completed the comeback for Horbury as they claimed victory.
Voase will be aiming to make his home debut next Saturday as Beverley welcome Athersley Recreation to Norwood Park on Saturday 3rd December 2022, kick-off: 3pm.
Tom Nixon & Josh Hinds (Boston United):
Under-21s’ captain Tom Nixon has started in the last two Boston United matches since our previous loan watch. The Trentham-born defender played the full game in the Pilgrims’ 4-1 midweek defeat against AFC Fylde before playing 71 minutes in their most recent fixture, a narrow 2-1 defeat against Bradford Park Avenue.
Jake Wright gave Boston a 1-0 lead at half-time, netting in the 45th minute, but two goals in 11 minutes saw the Pilgrims throw away their lead. Simon Richman equalised for Bradford Park Avenue, after he was picked out by ex-Hull City Academy defender Lucas Odunston, before ex-Leicester City forward Jacob Blyth netted the winner in the 78th minute.
Forward Josh Hinds wasn’t named in either of the matchday squads.
McCauley Snelgrove (Crusaders FC):
In Northern Ireland, McCauley Snelgrove started for Crusaders in their fixture against Linfield. Originally named on the bench, the winger was promoted to the starting XI after Jude Winchester got injured during the warm-up.
The fixture at Windsor Park ended in a goalless draw, with Crusaders currently sitting fourth in Northern Irish Premiership table on 33 points, five points behind current leaders Larne.
Andy Smith (Grimsby Town):
Returning to England, Andy Smith featured in both the EFL Trophy and FA Cup for Grimsby Town since our last loan watch. Starting in the EFL Trophy, Smith played the full game as Tommy Leigh’s second-half penalty saw Accrington Stanley progress to the next round of the competition, with Smith receiving a yellow card in the fixture.
The Banbury-born defender then featured as a 92nd minute substitute, replacing Brendan Kiernan, as the Mariners made it to third round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over League One side Cambridge United. Otis Khan netted a brace for the Mariners against former Hull City goalkeeper Will Mannion, with Sam Smith netting for Cambridge.
Oliver Green (Marske United):
Marske United’s two most recent scheduled games were postponed. After Oliver Green helped Marske create history as they progressed to the third round of the FA Trophy for the first time ever, their North Riding Senior Cup game against South Park Rangers and Northern Premier League Premier Division fixture against Nantwich Town were called off.
The fixture against South Park Rangers at Mount Pleasant has been rearranged for Wednesday 30th November 2022, kick-off: 7:45pm, while Marske have also discovered that they will welcome Marine in the third round of the FA Trophy, with the tie to be played on Saturday 17th December 2022.
David Robson (Crawley Town):
Heading to League Two, David Robson was an unused substitute as Crawley Town played out a goalless draw against Gillingham last Tuesday. The Red Devils were aiming to make it four consecutive home league wins, but the points were shared in the fixture with Lewis Young’s side currently sat 19th in the table.
Harvey Cartwright (Peterborough United):
Fellow goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright was not named in Peterborough’s matchday squad as Grant McCann’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup, losing 3-1 to fellow League One side Shrewsbury Town in the second round.
Kwame Poku cancelled out Tom Bayliss’ opener, but finishes from ex-Hull City loanee Matthew Pennington and Shrewsbury captain Luke Leahy sent the hosts through to the third round for a sixth straight season.
The shot-stopper has travelled with the first-team squad to Türkiye.
