Hull City would like to thank midfielders Richie Smallwood and Tom Huddlestone, and forward Tom Eaves for their efforts in a black and amber shirt following the announcement of the retained list.
Smallwood was named captain upon his arrival from Blackburn Rovers ahead of the 2020/21 season, leading the club to their first league title in 55 years as the Tigers won Sky Bet League One. Ever-present in his two seasons with the club, Smallwood made 74 appearances for Hull City, scoring two goals in victories against Preston North End and Coventry City.
Eaves was another member of the League One title-winning team, first making his debut against Swansea City back in August 2019. Scoring 18 goals in 108 appearances for the club, the forward had memorable moments in the form of a hat-trick against Rotherham United in the FA Cup and scoring the Tigers 600th league goal at the MKM Stadium in Shota Arveladze’s first game in charge, a 2-0 victory over Swansea City.
Huddlestone made 12 appearances after rejoining the Tigers for a second time in the summer of 2021. Making his final appearance in the season finale against Nottingham Forest, the midfielder made a combined 173 appearances for the club over two spells, scoring eight goals.
