It has been a season of change at Hull City, with new players, a new manager and a new owner. Take a look through our selection of the best photos of 2021/22 in our alternative season review…

 

1 – The players applaud the travelling fans ahead of the opening game at Preston North End, our first competitive match in front of our supporters since March 2020.

2 – Keane Lewis-Potter scores our first goal back in the Championship on 35 minutes to draw the Tigers level.

3 – Captain Richie Smallwood nets his first Hull City goal and the team’s second in a 4-1 win at Deepdale which sent us top of the Championship table.

4 – Tom Eaves’ late equaliser rescues a point at home to fellow promoted side Blackpool.

5 – Lewis-Potter’s volley goes in off Joe Lumley to break the deadlock against Middlesbrough.

6 – Mallik Wilks’ stoppage-time effort sparks wild celebrations as City beat Boro 2-0 to end a nine-match winless run.

7 – After five straight defeats, the Tigers record a crucial 2-0 win at Barnsley, with Lewis-Potter netting our second.

8 – Nathan Baxter punches the air after keeping a clean sheet on his Championship debut at Oakwell.

9 – George Honeyman scores his second goal in as many matches as the Tigers make it back-to-back wins with a 2-0 success over Birmingham City.

10 – The Tigers grind out a battling 1-0 win at Cardiff City, courtesy of Lewis-Potter’s first-half header.

11 – Grant McCann thanks the visiting fans who made the long midweek trip to the Welsh capital.

12 – Ryan Longman seals a 2-1 win over Millwall as City climb to 19th after a fourth straight victory.

13 – Wilks fires home from range to salvage a 1-1 draw at Reading.

14 – Longman celebrates his spectacular equaliser in the FA Cup third round against Everton, a tie the Toffees eventually win 3-2 after extra time.

15 – New owner Acun Ilicali is introduced to the MKM Stadium crowd before the match against Blackburn Rovers on the day his takeover of the club was completed.

16 – Honeyman wheels away after scoring the first goal of the new era in a 2-0 win over Rovers.

17 – Longman’s strike secures a shock 1-0 triumph at AFC Bournemouth in what proved to be McCann’s final match in charge.

18 – Shota Arveladze is appointed as the club’s new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

19 – Two goals in the opening 17 minutes see off Swansea City in Arveladze’s first game, with Lewis-Potter notching the second.

20 – Lewis-Potter’s brace helps the Tigers to a 3-0 win over former boss McCann’s Peterborough United.

21 – Arveladze goes over to the away end to celebrate in front of the near-2,000 visiting fans at London Road.

22 – Smallwood’s early opener sets us on our way to an impressive 2-0 victory at Coventry as our unbeaten away run extends to five matches.

23 – We record our first league win at Middlesbrough in 36 years, thanks to Lewis-Potter’s 10th goal of the season.

24 – Allahyar Sayyadmanesh bags his first Tigers goal in a 2-1 win over Cardiff which mathematically secures our Championship survival.

25 – Homegrown stars Brandon Fleming and Lewis-Potter embrace after the latter’s opener in a 3-0 win over Reading.

26 – Lewie Coyle is congratulated by his teammates after his dramatic last-gasp equaliser in the final-day draw against Nottingham Forest.

27 – Players and staff thank the fans for their support as we end our first season back at this level in 19th place.
