Hull City can confirm the departure of midfielder George Honeyman to fellow Championship side Millwall for an undisclosed fee.
An influential figure during his three years at the MKM Stadium, the 27-year-old scored 10 goals in 127 appearances after signing from boyhood club Sunderland in August 2019.
He played 44 times in his debut season, growing in stature post-Christmas, and was the Tigers’ standout performer in 2020/21 as we were crowned League One champions.
Netting four goals, including one in the title-clinching victory over Wigan Athletic, and providing 14 assists in 47 games, the energetic playmaker’s exceptional displays landed him a host of accolades.
Collecting all three club Player of the Year awards, he was also named in the League One, EA Sports FIFA and PFA Teams of the Year, and shortlisted for the division’s top player prize.
His return to fitness and form last campaign inspired an upturn in results, notching three goals as the Tigers won four straight matches in November to climb away from the bottom three.
He ended the 2021/22 season with five strikes in 36 outings, his final goal also being the first of Acun Ilıcalı’s reign as owner in the 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.
We would like to thank George for his work ethic, dedication and immense contribution to the club, and wish him well for his time with the Lions.
