The Story So Far: Óscar Estupiñán

Born in Cali, Colombia, Estupiñán started his youth career at Once Caldas. Making his debut in the Categoría Primera A on the 16th May 2015 against Uniautónoma FC, the 25-year-old scored his first senior goal four months later in a 1-1 draw against Envigado FC.

Scoring 18 goals in 56 appearances for El Blanco, including a brace in a 4-0 demolition over Jaguares FC, Estupiñán made the move to Portugal to sign for Vitória de Guimarães in July 2017, becoming their first summer signing.

The Colombian forward would spend time between the first team and B team in his first season with the club, scoring 10 goals in 17 appearances for the latter. Featuring in the Europa League for the first team, Estupiñán made his debut in the 2017 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira final against Benfica.

Netting his first senior goal for Vitória in May 2018 within a minute of coming off the bench in a 4-1 win over C.D. Tondela, the 25-year-old returned to South America in January 2019 to Barcelona S.C on loan.

Scoring five goals in nine league games for the Ecuadorian side, Estupiñán joined Turkish side Denilzlispor later in the same year. Scoring 14 goals in 33 appearances for the Horozlar, including seven in five Türkiye Kupasi games, the forward returned to Portugal for the 2020/21 season following the expiry of his loan spell.

After netting nine goals in 24 appearances, Estupiñán produced his best goalscoring season to date last campaign. Scoring 15 goals in 28 Liga Bwin games, the 25-year-old finished joint fifth in the league’s top scorer chart.

In total, Estupiñán has scored 75 goals in 200 club appearances, registering 15 assists, and will become the first player to hail from Colombia to represent the Tigers. 

Internationally,  earned his first and only cap to date in May 2022, replacing Club Brugge’s Éder Balanta on the 78th minute in a 1-0 friendly victory over Saudi Arabia.
