Jack Leckie signs for Hull City Academy

5 July 2022

Young centre-half Jack Leckie has joined Hull City’s Academy on a two-year deal, with the club holding an option of an extra year.

The 18-year-old will join the Under-23 squad for the 2022/23 season and will learn under academy manager Richard Naylor, with the Tigers looking to improve on a third-placed finish last term.

Leckie started his career with his hometown club Newcastle United aged 13 before joining Burnley on a two-year scholarship in July 2020.

He made 19 appearances last season for the Clarets’ Under-18 side, all of them being starts, and acted as vice-captain.

Featuring 17 times in the U18 Premier League, the defender contributed an assist in a 3-1 win against Stoke City and started both of Burnley’s FA Youth Cup fixtures against Luton Town and Liverpool.

Leckie had been on trial with the Tigers at the back end of last season, featuring for both the Under-18s and Under-23s in the Professional Development League.

His most notable performance came with the Under-23s, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 away victory over Southern League leaders Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed with Hull City,” said Leckie.

"I firmly believe in this club and the opportunity it gives to younger players. I’m going to work hard and develop as a player and I’m looking forward to becoming a Tiger in the coming seasons.”
