Striker Tyler Smith was delighted to net his first goal for the Tigers in a five-goal thriller against Everton in the FA Cup.
The 23-year-old’s header after just 43 seconds against the Toffees set the tone for what was an enthralling cup tie at the MKM Stadium. Although Everton progressed through to the next round of the competition after prevailing in extra-time, Smith believes there were a lot of positives to take from the game.
“We were very unlucky,” said Smith.
“I thought we were the better team throughout. We went toe to toe with them and the gameplan was to get right in their faces. We were unlucky to come away with a defeat but as a whole we can be very proud.
“I was delighted to get my goal. As soon as it hit the back of the net, I was just so happy. I work hard behind closed doors on the training ground and to get my first goal in a game like that, I was delighted.”
The Tigers return to action in the Championship on Sunday against Stoke City, and Smith says it is vital that the team carry the performance against Everton into the upcoming league matches.
“Competing against a team like Everton and taking them into extra-time - it’s only going to give us more confidence,” added Smith.
“We’ve got a good team here, a good group of guys. We just need to keep putting in performances week after week and we’ll start climbing up the league.
“We demand a lot of each other but it’s what needs to happen in the Championship.”
