Hull City are delighted to announce the return of midfielder Regan Slater on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old joins the club from Sheffield United after agreeing a two-and-a-half-year contract, with a club option of a further year.
The central midfielder becomes our first signing of the January transfer window and Acun Ilıcalı’s reign as owner.
Spending the 2020/21 season on loan at the MKM Stadium, Slater featured 34 times in all competitions and scored one goal, in a 3-1 victory at Bristol Rovers.
He played an important role during the promotion run-in, starting eight of the Tigers’ final nine games as we were crowned League One champions.
Born in Gleadless, Slater came through the ranks at Bramall Lane and became the Blades’ youngest-ever goalscorer when netting on his professional debut aged 17.
He spent the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons on loan at League Two sides Carlisle and Scunthorpe respectively, making a combined 56 appearances, prior to his temporary Tigers switch.
Slater said: “It’s definitely a good feeling (to be here). I’d been waiting on it since the summer. This is where I wanted to be and I’m delighted to be back.
“Last season, I worked towards getting Hull to the Championship and I feel like I deserve my shot at seeing what I can do (at this level). I’m excited to jump in.
“I’m ready to kick on with my career. I want to be playing games and I couldn’t think of a better place to do it. I want to test myself in the Championship. I believe I can do it and I want to prove that now.
“I can’t wait to meet the fans – we missed out massively last season not having the fans with us and sharing the journey we went on.
“If we can make some more memories, that’d be a lovely touch.”
