Hull City midfielder George Honeyman says he and his teammates are excited at the prospect of causing an upset in the FA Cup as they hope to overcome Premier League outfit Everton.
Rafael Benitez’s Toffees have only picked up 19 points from 18 games this season but will be strong favourites to progress to the next round, although Honeyman insists the Tigers will head into the tie full of confidence.
“I think it’s more just excitement,” said Honeyman when asked about the overriding feeling heading into the game.
“It feels like it’s a free hit because most people will be expecting Everton to win with them being in the Premier League. We’re feeling good at the minute and want to take them on and prove that we’re a good side as well.
“They’re maybe not on their best run at the minute. They’re not going to come here and get an easy win to get their form back. We’ll go out there to show that the MKM Stadium isn’t an easy place to visit.”
Despite going through a tough period over the last couple of weeks, Honeyman says the spirit in the Tigers camp remains high, and the players are fully focused on trying to cause an upset against Everton.
“We’re not going to let them come here and just dictate the game,” added Honeyman.
“You’ve got to respect that they’re good players but they’re coming to our stadium, so we want to have a go and see what they’re all about. We’re still feeling really good as a squad and we’re going into the game with our heads held high.
“You can look at it and say that it’s a good time to play them but they’re a Premier League team for a reason. They’re not going to come here and give us an easy game but we’ve got to focus on ourselves and prove that we’re not going to be any pushover for them to get back into form.
“We know the quality of the players that they have and we’ve got to be at the very top of our game to beat them.”
