Jones: ‘They’re the best team in the league’

11 February 2022

Hull City return to action this weekend against Fulham at the MKM Stadium, and defender Alfie Jones is looking forward to the challenge of coming up against the league leaders.

Marco Silva’s Cottagers have scored 77 goals in 29 games so far this season, which sees them sat six points clear at the top of the Championship.

“We take every game as it comes,” said Jones.

“They’re the best team in the league and they’ve shown that in their performances. As a player, you want to go and perform against those teams and show what you’re made of. You want to test yourself against the best in the division.

“We want to put things right straight away and prove to the fans and ourselves that we can put a performance in. We need to bounce back straight away and put a performance in and pick up some points.”

Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat against Derby County saw the 24-year-old centre-back play his first 90 minutes of football since September against Blackpool. Having only made nine appearances so far this season, the defender is now determined to end the campaign strongly.

“It’s been a frustrating season for me,” explained Jones.

“I haven’t been able to get that run in the team. I’ve had two big injuries which is never good for a player, especially with it being my first season in the Championship.

“Hopefully I can put that behind me now and look forward.”
