Dawson on U23s Sheffield Wednesday Victory

10 February 2022

Lead PDP Coach Andy Dawson has spoken about his side’s performance after the Under-23s defeated Sheffield Wednesday in the Professional Development League.

Sincere Hall’s first-half finish separated the two sides as the Tigers secured a 1-0 victory at the LNER Community Stadium.

On The Victory…

“In terms of a performance, I thought first half we played some good stuff. We created numerous opportunities and we asked them to be brave in possession, take it into tight areas and try to find ways out. We maybe could have had more forward runners to maybe hurt them in behind, but overall there was some really good play in the first half.

“Second half, we were probably a little bit disappointed of the way we tried to play. I thought we could have found different solutions and took a little bit more care in the detail of what we were trying to do. Whether that was receiving the ball or passing it or our decision making, but inevitably the boys kept on working hard and kept going and that’s always a positive.

Under-18s Involved…

“Tom Macauley has had a great loan at Hall Road Rangers. He kept numerous clean sheets so that’s credit to him and ‘Sully’ (Neil Sullivan) for the hard work that they have put in, as well as Ben Voase and ‘Fisky’ (Harry Fisk) that work hard every day, so for Tom to get a clean sheet is a real positive for him.

“I thought Sincere (Hall) was absolutely excellent. He’s come into the building and showed signs of the quality he’s got and he produced an all-round performance. He’s now set his standard and he’s got to keep that going both in work rate and in possession as he showed with scoring a great goal and the chances he creates for the team. It was also good to get Jake Brown on the pitch as a substitute.

Barnsley & LIV Supplies Preview…

“They’re two completely different games. We’re playing Barnsley at the MKM Stadium and then we’ve got LIV Supplies in the East Riding Senior Cup, but that’s all part of the players’ development that mix ranged of games.

“It helps them play against different types of players to different physicality. All them things are really good, because they have to have that little bit more experience and different experience so it’s quite refreshing for us. It will be three games within less than a week which is brilliant.”
