Coyle: ‘It’s a game I’m looking forward to’

15 February 2022

Defender Lewie Coyle is looking forward to the challenge of coming up against play-off chasing Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Tigers produced a much-improved performance in the defeat against Fulham, and will be looking to build on that display against Paul Heckingbottom’s Blades.

“The games come thick and fast this time of year,” said Coyle.

“I think we all thrive off that as players. If you’ve lost the previous game or produced a lacklustre performance, you’ve always got a game in two or three days to bounce back and put things right.

“There’s nothing worse as a team than when you’ve had a defeat and you’ve got to wait a week to try and put things right.”

Duo Regan Slater and Tyler Smith will both be hoping to feature at Bramall Lane, having risen through the ranks with the Blades before joining the Tigers. Although he admits the game will carry extra importance for those two players, Coyle believes it is the sort of game every player wants to be involved in.

“I don’t think I need to say how much added motivation there will be for those two, going back to the club they have previously played for,” explained Coyle.

“These are the games that every player wants to be involved in. There will be that extra little bit of something in the air away at Sheffield (United). Hopefully it’ll be close to a full house - it’s a game I’m looking forward to.

“They’ve hit a bit of form at the right time in the season. As the saying goes, they’re on the charge. Weirdly, it’s a nice time to play them as we’ll be looking to take the sting out of their run and come away with the three points to kickstart a little run ourselves.”
