Arveladze’s reaction to defeat against Barnsley

23 February 2022

Shota Arveladze was left bitterly disappointed with his side’s performance as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Barnsley.

Callum Styles and Carlton Morris netted in the opening 45 minutes for the Tykes at the MKM Stadium which was enough to secure the visitors all three points.

“Sometimes you don’t have to say too much,” said Arveladze.

“They’re honest, nice boys (in the changing room) and they know they haven’t played as a team there.

“There is a pressure in this type of game with a big crowd and you have to come out and do what everybody expects.

“We had a good chance early on with Keano (Keane Lewis-Potter) to get the start you imagine, but you give the ball away and they score. Then you give a corner away in the last minute of the half and then you concede the second before you go in, so it’s difficult.”

With another important game coming up against Peterborough United, Arveladze says it is important the players stay positive and look to bounce back as soon as possible.

“We have to stay positive, it was positive to see the supporters come and they supported us until the last minute,” added Arveladze.

“Maybe we could’ve created more (in the second half). We had a chance with 20 minutes to go with Tyler Smith and that would’ve got us back into the game.

“We’ve not been at our best today and we gave a very important three points away.”

Arveladze confirmed that Nathan Baxter, Callum Elder, Tom Eaves and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh all missed out due to injury, but did reveal that Matt Ingram could be available to return to the squad for this weekend’s trip to Peterborough.
