Shota Arveladze could not fault the effort of his players despite losing 1-0 at home to Preston North End.
Cameron Archer’s finish six minutes after the break gave Ryan Lowe’s side victory and ended the Tigers’ three-match winning run.
“We have to give credit to our opponents,” said Arveladze.
“The lads kept going until the last minute of extra time. They really worked hard.
“We started well, solid. We were a little bit rash with the ball, too quick to play in behind and giving the ball away, which we can do better.
“The goal they scored, we have to do better; we lost a short pass and we left the striker free.
“We could have equalised from the last corner but that’s football and sometimes there is pain but it will make us stronger for the next games and we want to look forward.
“We know it’s not an easy time with the changes and new players (coming in). There was a short list of players, now it’s a little bit longer. Everybody has to be ready for their chance.”
Arveladze confirmed that goalkeeper Nathan Baxter’s absence from the matchday squad was due to illness.
