Liam Rosenior has confirmed that Dimitrios Pelkas will be out of action for 10 to 12 weeks through injury.
The 29-year-old has started all four of our games under the management of Rosenior so far but was forced off with a knee injury against Watford after nine minutes.
“It’s unfortunate for him and us because he’s been a real bright spark since I’ve come in,” said Rosenior.
“He’s a great person. He wants to learn and has shown real quality in the games he’s played. Fortunately, he doesn’t require an operation at this moment in time which is great for his career. We’ll do our very best to look after him and make sure he gets back as quickly as possible.
“He’s looking at 10 to 12 weeks (on the sidelines) which isn’t ideal considering the other attacking options we don’t have available to us. It’s my job to keep going and find a solution for the upcoming games and I’m confident I can do that with the squad we have here.
“You always want players like Dimitrios available to you. Not just for his quality, but for his intelligence when it comes to our pressing and understanding on what we’re wanting to do. He’s been educating other players because he’s used to what I’m asking the team to do.
“It’s part of football. You don’t go through any season without injuries. It’s unfortunate in this case because it’s an impact injury. The most important thing is that he gets back onto the pitch as quickly as possible, and we look after him.”
There were also concerns regarding the fitness of midfielder Greg Docherty after he was withdrawn against the Hornets with a dead leg. However, Rosenior has confirmed he will be available for Saturday’s game against Sunderland.
“He’s absolutely fine,” revealed Rosenior.
“He trained fully today (Thursday) and he’s a fit lad. I’m delighted to have him available for Saturday.”
