Smallwood: ‘We’ll be up for the fight’

14 April 2022

Captain Richie Smallwood says the team will be up for the “fight” when Cardiff City visit the MKM Stadium on Good Friday.

The Tigers extended their unbeaten run away from home to six games with a 1-0 win against his former club Middlesbrough, and Smallwood is hopeful the team can now start replicating that form at home.

“I think it’s really important (to pick up a result at home),” said Smallwood.

“The supporters deserve something to cheer about at home. I think we’ve been unlucky in a couple of games. We need to put that right.

“Our spirits are high, so hopefully we can come out and be firing on all cylinders (against Cardiff).”

Steve Morison’s Bluebirds are sat five points above the Tigers in the Championship, and Smallwood is expecting another tough battle.

“You can always expect a tough test against Cardiff, just because of how physical and how big they are,” added Smallwood.

“They’re normally direct. We’ve seen a little bit of footage of them from the weekend and they seem to be trying to play a little bit more, but they’ve still got that physicality in the team with (Jordan) Hugill up front and the lads at the back who are big, strong lads.

“We’ll be up for the fight and hopefully our quality will come out on top.”
