Slater hails ‘great’ performance against Middlesbrough

11 April 2022

Midfielder Regan Slater praised the team’s collective performance against Middlesbrough following Hull City’s 1-0 win against the play-off chasers.

Keane Lewis-Potter’s right-footed strike with just over 15 minutes of normal time remaining was enough to secure all three points for the Tigers at the Riverside Stadium.

“I think the performance was great from the boys,” said Slater.

“Our shape was good throughout the game and Keane (Lewis-Potter) was clinical when he needed to be. We defended well and had that bit of quality through Keane.”

Not since March 1986 had the Tigers won a league fixture on Teesside, but Slater started to believe that another away victory was on the cards the longer the game remained goalless.

“They’re a very good team,” added Slater.

“They’ve got a good shape and they move the ball well, but our shape was very good as well.

“As the game went on, and we were keeping them quiet, I fancied us on the counter. When Keane cuts inside on his right foot, there’s usually only one thing happening, and he’s produced.”

Although he has been a regular under Shota Arveladze, this was only the third occasion that Slater had played a full 90 minutes since joining in January, and the midfielder was delighted to get more minutes into his legs.

“I’m buzzing with it,” explained Slater.

“I was happy to get 90 minutes. I’m very pleased all-round. They (the management team) like my aggression - getting up and in people’s faces, as well as my quality on the ball.

“I’ll just keep putting the work in and hopefully nothing changes on my behalf.”
