Honeyman: ‘I’m extremely proud’

29 April 2022

Midfielder George Honeyman says he is ‘extremely proud’ of what the Tigers have achieved in their first season back in the Championship.

The 2-1 win against Cardiff City on Good Friday secured Shota Arveladze’s side another season in the second tier, and Honeyman believes it is a significant achievement for the club after last season’s promotion.

“I’m extremely proud of the lads,” explained Honeyman.

“We didn’t have a great start and then had another little patch after Swansea (in January), but we’ve picked ourselves up and that shows the character in the squad.

“I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved this year. I think it’s a good base for this club to go on and do better things.”

The Tigers are back on the road this weekend as they travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City in their penultimate game of the season. Honeyman sees it as a good opportunity for the team to improve their league position.

“We’re quite lucky they’re the next team above us in the league and if we beat them, we go above them,” said Honeyman.

“We’re not taking our foot off the gas. It’s a long way for our fans to come to watch so we want to send them home happy and give them another decent away performance.

“We want to keep the momentum going. We don’t want to lose the last two games and then feel flat going into the summer.

“We’ve got two games to try and get six points.”
