6 September 2021

Over the summer, the Tigers loaned out a total number of nine players to aid in their development to get further first-team experience. We take a look at how the players got on in our weekly loan watch…

James Scott at Hibernian:

The 21-year-old is enjoying his spell back in his homeland with Hibernian. Hibs are currently sitting at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, with Scott making two starts from two against Dundee and Livingston.

Billy Chadwick & Ahmed Salam at Linfield FC:

In Northern Ireland, both Billy Chadwick and Ahmed Salam are gaining vital minutes in their development with Linfield. They both made their debuts in the Europa Conference League, with Chadwick scoring in a 2-1 defeat against Luxembourg champions SC Fola Esch as Linfield were knocked out of the competition 4-2 on aggregate.

However, the Blues started their title defence with a 2-0 opening-day win against Crusaders in the NIFL Premiership. Chadwick started the fixture, while Salam was a stoppage-time substitute as Christy Manzinga’s brace secured the three points for Linfield.

Callum Jones at Morecambe:

The midfielder has had to remain patient at League One side Morecambe. Despite starting in the Shrimps’ impressive 2-1 victory in the Carabao Cup against Blackburn Rovers, his last appearance was in a 2-1 defeat away at Gillingham in August. Morecambe’s most recent fixture against Crewe Alexandra was postponed due to the international break.

Festus Arthur at Barrow:

Festus Arthur has been featuring regularly for League Two side Barrow. The defender made his EFL debut in the Bluebirds’ opening-day fixture as a second-half substitute against Stevenage. The 21-year-old also scored his first goal for Barrow in their 2-2 draw against Accrington Stanley and has currently made seven appearances in all competitions this season.

Harry Wood at Scunthorpe United:

The 19-year-old made his debut for Scunthorpe United after a deadline day move to the League Two side. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes as the Iron suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Northampton Town. Second-half goals from Danny Rose and Sam Hoskins condemned Scunthorpe to defeat, with the Iron playing the majority of the game with ten men after Emmanuel Onariase’s early red card.

Andy Smith at Salford City:

Andy Smith made his Salford City debut in their EFL Cup fixture against local rivals Oldham Athletic. Carl Piergianni’s first-half header condemned the Ammies to defeat as Smith played the full 90 minutes. However, the defender is still awaiting his league debut as he was an unused substitute in a 2-1 defeat against Carlisle United.

Matty Jacob at Gateshead FC:

The defender is currently enjoying a productive spell with National League North side Gateshead. The full-back made his debut as a second-half substitute in a 3-1 victory over Kettering Town and made his first start for the club in a 1-1 draw away at Chester. He also started against both Guiseley and Southport respectively as the Heed currently remain unbeaten in the league.

Jake Leake at Boston United:

The 18-year-old has made two starts in two games while out on loan at Boston United. The National League North side secured 2-1 victories against Curzon Ashton and Bradford Park Avenue, with Leake getting an assist in the latter of the two games.
