Hull City U23s 1-0 Swansea City U23s: Match Report

14 September 2021

Will Jarvis’ second-half strike secured the Hull City U23s a 1-0 victory over Swansea City U23s at the LNER Community Stadium.

His curling effort found the top corner as the Tigers earned all three points in the Professional Development League.

Richard Naylor and Andy Dawson made four changes to the starting XI that were defeated away at Bristol City last time out. Second-year scholars Jevon Mills and Alfie Taylor started in defence, while Louis Beckett and Brandon Fleming also featured.

The Tigers started the brighter of the two teams as Beckett saw his shot go wide, before McCauley Snelgrove tested Nico Hansen with a curling effort. From the resulting corner, Alfie Taylor poked his effort over the bar, while Hansen was alert to save Josh Hinds’ attempt.

At the other end, Ben Margetson headed over from Richard Faakye’s cross, before Tarelle Whittaker saw two separate attempts brilliantly saved by Harvey Cartwright. Harry Jones, Snelgrove and Hinds all fired chances wide for their respective sides as the first half ended goalless.

The visitors almost opened the scoring 30 seconds into the restart, but a good block from Cartwright denied Dylan Morgan from point-blank range. In the other goal, Hansen produced a great save to deny Jarvis, before the City forward opened the scoring on the 56th minute with a precise finish.

Swansea tried to respond as Sam Leverett fired an audacious attempt wide, while Tom Nixon almost doubled the Tigers’ lead after a quick counter-attack. Harry Lovick then found the run of Snelgrove, but his header went wide after beating the onrushing Hansen.

The Tigers had chances to double their lead late on, with Nixon seeing his effort deflect over the bar, before Snelgrove saw his close-range effort saved by Hansen.
