First-year professional McCauley Snelgrove was happy to contribute to the team after the Under-23s secured a 4-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra.
Oliver Green opened the scoring before the forward scored two and assisted for Tom Nixon as the Tigers secured all three points in the Professional Development League.
“I’m delighted with my own performance,” said Snelgrove.
“Andy (Dawson) says I need to be in the box at every opportunity every day in training and once I’m in that position, the goals will come like they did in this game.
“I was happy to help Tom (Nixon) get his first goal as it was a great run by him in the last minute and he’s busted a gut to get into the box so the least I could do was find him. Overall, the main thing was getting the three points and I was happy to contribute to that.
“I thought we started the game a bit sloppy with the turnovers, but as the game went on we got better. I think second half, we got the press right and it led to more chances which we converted, but it all came from the off-the-ball work we did. We said at half-time that if we raised the intensity, we would get goals and that’s what we did.
“It was great to get the clean sheet as well. The experienced players gave it everything and they worked hard for the team and stopped Crewe playing through us.
“We’ve now got to carry this performance into next week against Sheffield United and hopefully continue this good form by getting a positive result.”
