4 October 2021

We take a look at how some of our young players got on in our weekly loan watch.

Tom Macauley at Hall Road Rangers:

Just hours after joining on work experience, the goalkeeper made his debut for the NCEL Division One outfit. However, he couldn’t stop Hall Road suffering a 3-1 home defeat against Rossington Main.

Harvey Cartwright at Gainsborough Trinity:

The 19-year-old kept a clean sheet as Gainsborough Trinity secured a 2-0 away victory at Lancaster City. Second-half goals from Bradley Grayson and Harry Jessop secured the three points for Gainsborough, who currently sit in twelfth position in the Northern Premier League.

Matty Jacob at Gateshead FC:

Another player to play a full 90 minutes was Matty Jacob as Gateshead defeated Runcorn Linnets 3-2 in the FA Cup. Cedwyn Scott scored the winner as the Heed face a trip away to face either Chester FC or Marske United in the fourth qualifying round.

Jake Leake at Boston United:

Staying in the FA Cup, Jake Leake was an unused substitute as Boston United progressed in the prestigious competition after a 4-0 victory over East Thurrock United. The Pilgrims face Stratford Town at home in the next round.

Callum Jones at Morecambe:

Midfielder Callum Jones made his fifth appearance in all competitions for Morecambe as they suffered a 4-3 defeat against Wycombe Wanderers. The 20-year-old replaced Adam Phillips in the 71st minute as the Shrimps currently sit in thirteenth position in Sky Bet League One.

Billy Chadwick & Ahmed Salam at Linfield:

In Northern Ireland, Billy Chadwick played 57 minutes as Linfield continued their unbeaten league start. The Blues drew 1-1 at home against Cliftonville, with Ahmed Salam not making the squad.

James Scott at Hibernian:

Forward James Scott was an unused substitute as ten-man Hibernian suffered a 2-1 defeat against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

Festus Arthur at Barrow:

Back in England, Festus Arthur was an unused substitute for Barrow, with the Bluebirds securing a 1-0 victory away against ten-man Mansfield Town.

Harry Wood at Scunthorpe United:

Harry Wood was also an unused substitute as Scunthorpe United suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Newport County.

Andy Smith at Salford City:

Elsewhere, Andy Smith was an unused substitute as ten-man Salford City defeated Colchester United 2-0 in Sky Bet League Two.
